These students also spent time coloring their Journey Guide map. The coloring makes it pretty, but that means that they spent time looking at it and studying it too.

Snap Shot of the Journey
At some points in the journey, students need a little extra information. However, not all students are working on the same thing at the same time. As students are ready to move on to new information, a new story, or a worksheet, those items become available for them. Here are three students working through the notes together which are available in binders for each group. Instead of listening to a lecture, they are reading through the notes together and filling in a page to keep for themselves in their Journey Guide.
These students also spent time coloring their Journey Guide map. The coloring makes it pretty, but that means that they spent time looking at it and studying it too.

Entry Document
The entry document for this unit was delivered to the students as a scroll. Each student got a letter as they entered class. After reading it, it took them a few minutes to realize that they had to approach the teacher to get their supplies and begin the journey!
Dear Student,
This notice finds you in the familiar territory of your English classroom. You have been specifically selected to undertake a Hero’s Journey of your very own. Your Call to Adventure is to gain knowledge and understanding that you may claim and possess of your own by analyzing the Hero’s Journey of the Great King of Ithaca: Odysseus. If you refuse the call, you may be asked to explain your reasons and the gods will surely punish you. When you do decide to accept this call to your adventure, you may select two or three other crew mates and proceed to your most obvious ally to receive your list of challenges.
May the Gods’ Favor Shine on You,
Athena
